Funding Secured for Linear Park Development in Duleek

I am delighted to share very positive news for Duleek following the confirmation of €300,000 in funding to support the development of a new Linear Park and river walk in the village. This investment will allow for the creation of an attractive and accessible walkway along Station Road, linking three existing green areas while showcasing key features and amenities within Duleek.

This funding represents a significant step forward for the village and is something I very much welcome. The Linear Park Project has long been recognised as an opportunity to revitalise the centre of Duleek, improve connectivity, and enhance the public realm for residents and visitors alike. With this funding now secured, we can begin to turn that vision into reality.

The project will focus on connecting green spaces along the river, creating a continuous, safe and enjoyable walking route that can be used by people of all ages. Importantly, it will also help highlight Duleek’s natural assets and encourage greater use of outdoor spaces, supporting healthier lifestyles and stronger community engagement. Developments like this play a vital role in strengthening villages and ensuring they remain vibrant, welcoming places to live and visit.

This funding has been awarded under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, which was established in 2016 to support projects that rejuvenate town and village centres across the country. The scheme focuses on driving economic growth, boosting tourism, tackling dereliction and investing in outdoor and public spaces. The Linear Park Project in Duleek aligns strongly with these objectives and demonstrates the type of forward-thinking, community-focused development that the scheme was designed to support.

From my perspective, this is not just an investment in infrastructure — it is an investment in people. Well-designed public spaces bring communities together, encourage local activity and support businesses by making village centres more attractive and accessible. The Linear Park will enhance the experience of moving through Duleek, whether that is for a short walk, a longer recreational outing, or simply enjoying the surroundings of the village.

I am particularly pleased that this project will improve connectivity within Duleek. Linking green areas and enhancing pedestrian routes helps create a more cohesive village layout and reduces reliance on car journeys for short trips. This type of development supports sustainable living while also making everyday movement through the village safer and more enjoyable.

Projects like this do not happen in isolation. They require long-term planning, collaboration and support at multiple levels. I want to acknowledge and thank my Government colleagues, Dara Calleary and Thomas Byrne, for their role in helping to deliver this funding. Their continued support for rural and village renewal initiatives is essential in ensuring that communities like Duleek receive the investment they need to thrive.

As this project progresses, I will continue to engage with Meath County Council and relevant stakeholders to ensure that delivery is timely and that the final outcome reflects the needs and character of the village. My priority is to see this funding translated into a high-quality development that local people can take pride in and enjoy for many years to come.

The Linear Park has the potential to make a real and lasting difference to Duleek. I look forward to seeing work move forward and to sharing further updates as the project develops. This funding is a strong vote of confidence in the village, and I remain committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen our communities and improve quality of life across East Meath.
