About Stephen McKee
My name is Stephen McKee and I am a Fianna Fáil Councillor representing the Laytown-Bettystown Municipal District in East Meath. I am married to Lorna and we have three daughters. Alongside my work on Meath County Council, I am a Secondary School Teacher of Spanish and Italian at Eureka Secondary School in Kells, Co Meath. Education, community, and Public Service have shaped my life, and these values guide every decision I make as a Councillor.
It is a privilege to represent the residents of East Meath and the wider Drogheda area on Meath County Council. This is one of the fastest-growing parts of the Country, full of potential, energy, and ambition. With that growth comes real pressure on local infrastructure, services, schools, housing, transport, and community facilities. The need for strong and effective representation has never been greater. My commitment is simple: to serve our community with honesty, integrity, and hard work, and to always put the needs of East Meath first.

A strong voice for a growing community
East Meath is home to a diverse and vibrant population — young families building their futures, long-established communities rooted in the area for generations, and people who contribute daily to the life and economy of our towns and villages. They deserve high-quality public services, modern infrastructure, and a strategic approach to planning and development that reflects how quickly our area is expanding.
In my work on the Council, I advocate every day for the investment, supports, and resources required to meet these challenges. Whether it is securing funding for new public amenities, raising issues of road safety, pushing for improvements to road networks, or working closely with community groups and voluntary organisations, my focus is always on achieving practical solutions that make a meaningful difference.
Investing in recreation and community life
East Meath’s young and growing population needs accessible recreation and community facilities. I strongly support greater investment in amenities for children and families, as well as continued support for our local voluntary, sporting, and community groups. These organisations are the heartbeat of our area — they bring people together, provide opportunities for young people, and strengthen our sense of belonging. Ensuring they have the facilities and backing they need remains one of my core priorities.
Building better infrastructure and transport options
Improving roads, managing traffic, enhancing public transport, and investing in safer infrastructure are essential for a community like ours. I work to secure upgrades to local roads, footpaths, bus shelters, pedestrian crossings, and lighting, all of which are critical to safety and quality of life. I will continue to push for better public transport connections for commuters, students, and families, as well as improved transport planning that reflects how our population has grown.
Championing education
With many years of experience in education, I understand the pressures facing schools, teachers, parents, and students. East Meath requires greater educational provision to keep pace with demand. I continue to campaign for increased school places, expanded facilities, improved transport options for students, and more resources to support learning at every level.
Supporting housing and balanced development
Access to secure, affordable housing is a fundamental need. I work to ensure that Meath County Council provides sufficient homes for local people, including affordable and social housing. I also fully support rural one-off housing applicants, recognising the importance of protecting rural communities and allowing people to live close to their family networks and local roots.
Enhancing safety and reducing crime
Community safety is a top concern for many residents. I actively campaign for increased Garda resources for East Meath and will continue to press for stronger policing, better visibility, and the supports needed to reduce crime and protect our neighbourhoods.
Strengthening local jobs and quality of life
People should be able to live, work, and thrive in their own community without excessive commuting times. I support local businesses, work to attract investment, and advocate for new remote working hubs that meet the changing needs of families and professionals. Strengthening local employment options helps build a more resilient and connected community.

Representation is not just about raising issues — it is about listening, engaging, and working collaboratively to deliver real outcomes. I am committed to being an accessible and active voice for every resident of East Meath.
